Burn
A heat prayer
Here is the pairing today: Rolling by Roedelius and Arnold Kaser
Sometimes something just wants to come out of you. A gasp of amazement, a sigh of relief. I am learning to listen, listen to the flow of it. How life wants to arise within me. The pain, the joy, the sadness, the wind on my face, and the gratitude warm the palms of my hands. Sometimes the heat flairs and there we stand, souls pickling in the midday sun.
In the winter, I felt that summer would be “easier”, and yet the fire burns, it burns inside and out, cleansing, renewing, and exhausting the old to make way for the new.
I heard John O’Donohue say the other day: In times of peace, warlike people battle themselves.
God. How resonant. Do you ever feel like a warrior with no one to fight?
So here’s a heat prayer:
May you be free.
May the traumatic curse end.
May the prison around you transfigure.
May the suffering surrender.
Let the familiar wash you in soft comfort.
Let the fire of the sun, warm and not burn you.
May the cool waters of trust surround you.
May the loneliness cease within you.
May you find refuge in the inner world.
May the wolves serenade you with their howl.
When you hear them, may you remember what it means to be alive.
Let the small moments of life enflame the senses,
Let the grand events carry you like a river.
May the great tide of fear recede, and the loving wind embrace you.
Peace, Warrior, Peace.
